Safety and adventuring with your dogs this summer
Things to remember when you are adventuring out with your pups this summer.
One thing to consider is your pets fitness level, my Boston Terrier can keep up with us in the cooler months but once its over 18 degrees celsius he struggles and needs more breaks out on the trails. Always monitor them closely in the heat and carry water for them to stay well hydrated if you aren’t close to water for them to drink.
Proper water safety is one of the most important things you can do to keep yourself and your pets safe on or near a body of water. We enjoy being on the lake with our pets but its very important to always have life jackets available and again make sure you keep a close eye on them near the water. Things can go wrong and drowning is silent and can happen so quickly.
In the okanagan and many areas of Canada it’s a good idea to give your pets ticks prevention if you are in wooded areas with your furry friends. Ticks can be a real nuisance for us Humans and our pets. They can carry diseases like Lymes disease so check yourself and your pets for any signs of ticks.
We have cases of snake 🐍 bites in our area every year and this year is no exception. Be sure to always keep your pet close or on a leash in risky areas. My mom has the closest vet in our area that carries anti-venom saved in her phone. If your pet gets bite, call ahead to your vet and follow their instructions to get your pet the help they need.
Adventuring with your pups can be one of the most exciting and fulfilling experiences you can have as a pet owner! Not only do you get to bond with your furry friend in a new way, but you also get to explore the great outdoors together so get out there and enjoy your life together this summer.
